Pathanamthitta district panchayat Budget prioritises sanitation and agriculture

The annual Budget of the Pathanamthitta district panchayat, presented by vice-president Beena Prabha here on Thursday, places a strong emphasis on sanitation and agriculture.

The Budget estimates a total revenue of ₹129.57 crore against an expenditure of ₹124.36 crore, resulting in a surplus of ₹5.21 crore. Among the key allocations, ₹10.3 crore has been earmarked for sanitation, while ₹7.16 crore is set aside for agriculture. Public works will receive ₹17.37 crore, and ₹13.69 crore has been allocated for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

For education sector

While ₹2.45 crore has been set aside for animal husbandry and stray dog control, the education sector will receive ₹2 crore. A sum of ₹2.12 crore has been allotted for livelihood programmes, shelter homes for transgender individuals, and performing arts groups for people with disabilities. Women empowerment initiatives will receive ₹3.53 crore.

To ensure access to drinking water, ₹7 crore has been allocated, while the health sector will benefit from ₹4.87 crore.

District panchayat president George Abraham presided over the Budget presentation.
