The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Tiruchi arrested a passenger carrying ₹77,06,180 unaccounted cash during a routine inspection for illegal transportation of goods at Ariyalur railway outpost on Saturday.

Acting on the directives of GM Easwara Rao, Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Southern Railway, a special surveillance operation was conducted at Tiruchi Junction under the supervision of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Abhishek and Assistant Commissioner Pramod Nair. The inspections were led by Inspector K. P. Sebastian, RPF, Tiruchi, over the past few days.

During the operation, Sub-Inspector Saravanan RPF, Ariyalur, and his team intercepted a male passenger and conducted a search on suspicion, leading to the seizure of ₹77.06 lakh in cash. The individual was identified as V. Vinodkumar, 28, residing in Melamathur, Perambalur district. Upon inquiry, he failed to provide any valid documentation for carrying such a large sum.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was traveling from Chennai Egmore to Perambalur Melamathur via Train No. 12663 Howrah-Tiruchirapalli Express. The passenger, along with the seized cash and his mobile phone, was handed over to the Income Tax Department officials for further proceedings.
