The Association of Motor Vehicle Emission Testing Centres has urged the State government to expedite works to resolve glitches in ‘Parivahan’ website, which is used to generate Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.

As the website has been facing technical problems for the past five days, S. Nanthagopal, State president of the association, said they were not able to generate certificates for all kinds of vehicles, which were either waiting for registration or fitness certificate.

He said in Tamil Nadu there were about 550 vehicle emission testing centres. “In all the centres, the website faced a problem. Due to that, documents, photos and videos which are being uploaded to process the certificate are getting rejected,” he added.

The website which was launched in 2019 was of great help for the centres for quickening the process of generating certificates, he noted.

But the technical glitch had stopped the entire process for the last few days. “Heavy vehicles which are travelling to other States are being slapped with heavy fines for not having a PUC certificate,” he said.

Mr. Nanthagopal said as the PUC certificates could not be generated, issuance of FCs to vehicles at Regional Transport Offices was also stopped.

An official at an RTO in the city said the glitch which was observed in the last two to three days was being resolved by technicians in Chennai. “Once the problem is identified, the website will be revived,” the official added.
