The Episcopal Synod of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church on Thursday discussed a proposal to provide women with an opportunity to study theology by launching a one-year long course.

An official statement said the Synod will explore the potential of utilising the Church’s seminaries, libraries, and other basic facilities for the purpose.

The Synod also approved the constitution framed for the St. Joseph Elders Forum, intended for members aged 60 and above. Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos Metropolitan, head of the Chennai Diocese, has been appointed as the forum’s president.

Migration

Noting that migration is profoundly transforming Kerala’s social and familial fabric, the Synod discussed the need for the Church to actively address the plight of parents left isolated in their homeland after their children move abroad. It asked the parishes to pay special attention and ensure that the elderly parents participate in worship and fulfill their spiritual needs.

The Synod also lauded the Kerala government for its attempts to make the State investment friendly and described the recently held Invest Kerala Global Summit as a step in the right direction.
