One person was killed and 10 others suffered injuries when a jeep overturned near the fifth hairpin bend on Cumbum Mettu ghat road in Theni district on Wednesday.

According to police, the driver of the jeep Roshan Farooq of Cumbum was killed in the accident and 10 passengers, that included plantation workers, suffered injuries. It was said that the driver, while overtaking a government bus, lost control and hit a rock. Due to the impact, the jeep overturned on the road.

The injured persons were rescued by the passersby and immediately rushed to Cumbum Government Hospital in an ambulance. Four of the injured have been referred to Theni Government Medical College Hospital. Cumbum North police have registered a case.
