Notorious gangster Chera arrested by City police team in AP

A police team of Kodungaiyur station arrested 60-year-old history sheeter Chera alias Rajendran from a hide out in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. 

A senior official of the City police said Chera was a police official-turned-notorious gang leader who was involved in criminal activities in the 1990s. He was residing in Bhakthavatsalam colony in Vyasarpadi and was removed from the police force. Later he escaped in 2001 after pressure from City police to arrest him. 

However the police officials of the Pulianthope Deputy Commissioner received information that he operated from Andhra Pradesh by smuggling Ganja and demanding protection money from businessmen here. 

Based on the direction of City Police Commissioner A. Arun, the police team received information that he was hiding in AP. A police team arrested Chera and after producing him in court sent him to Puzhal jail.
