Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai on Wednesday said there was nothing wrong in then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s decision to cede Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka in 1974.

However, he said the party now supports the resolution passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly urging the Union government to take steps to retrieve the Katchatheevu island.

“In the current times if retrieving Katchatheevu helps resolve fishermen issues, we will be very happy,” Mr. Selvaperunthagai told reporters outside the Assembly complex.

He said Indira Gandhi also ensured that India got back lakhs of acres through the Wadge Bank agreement, which ensured we got rich mineral resources.

Mr. Selvaperunthagai claimed many leaders spoke in the Assembly concealing the history.
