The Pondicherry University Non-Teaching Staff Welfare Association has urged Rajneesh Bhutani, Registrar (in-charge) of Pondicherry University to take control of the Vice-Chancellor’s bungalow and ensure the former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gurmeet Singh does not remove any official records or files from the premises.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Bhutani, K. Anbazhagan, president of the Association said though the tenure of Mr. Singh ended on November 22, 2023, he prolonged his stay in the official residence. He has since vacated the bungalow.
Claiming he has planned to take all belongings, Mr Anbazhagan said, “This has given us a deeper sense of fear and concern as the individuals holding higher positions in the University have allowed the unlawful occupation of the VC’s bungalow, despite being aware that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked a case against the former VC for financial misappropriations. As a result, allowing him to access the bungalow would enable him to destroy documentary evidence.”
A number of files pertaining to several financial decisions, recruitment and other crucial decisions made by the former VC are in the bungalow. Hence, the administration should take control of the bungalow and issue a direction not to remove any records or files without prior permission, the Association said.
