The Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) has claimed that no factional meeting was organised by the party’s senior leaders as reported in the media earlier this week.

A press release quoting DCC president K. Praveenkumar said on Wednesday (March 11, 2025) that this was revealed in an inquiry conducted by K.P. Babu, member, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), and U.V. Dinesh Mani, State president, Deseeya Karshaka Thozhilali Federation. They were asked by the DCC on March 10 to find out if there was any truth in media reports that some senior Congress leaders had organised a factional meeting in a city hotel on March 9. Former DCC president K.C. Abu had sent a complaint to the KPCC as well.

The inquiry report, submitted on Wednesday, revealed that the city hotel had hosted a meeting of the lawyers’ wing of the Congress on the day, and that it was not a factional meeting. Mr. Praveenkumar said that media reports suggesting any factional work were baseless.

According to the earlier media reports, the complaint received by KPCC president K. Sudhakaran said that KPCC working president T. Siddique and KPCC general secretary P.M. Niyas had held the meeting at the behest of a faction led by K.C. Venugopal, All-India Congress Committee general secretary. Following this, Mr. Sudhakaran sought a report from Mr. Praveenkumar. Mr. Venugopal too is reported to have asked the local leadership about it.
