In a major accident during wee hours of  Wednesday (January 22, 2025) nine persons were killed on the spot and over 16 suffered injuries when a vegetable and fruit laden truck in which they were travelling, overturned in Uttara Kannada district.

Those in the truck were reportedly going to the Kumta weekly market from Savanur in Haveri district.

The accident occurred in Arabail ghat region near Yallapur. According to initial information around 40 persons were taking vegetables and fruits to Kumta market and the considering the severity of the accident, the casualties are likely to go up.

The Yallapur Police rushed to the spot and have ferried injured to Yallapur raluk hospital. Further details are awaited.
