The teaching fraternity of the University of Mysore has revived the activities of the Mysore University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) which had remained inactive for over 20 years. After a long gap, the activities have been renewed, and the activities for the year 2025 were launched here on Friday.

N.K. Lokanath, Vice-Chancellor, the University of Mysore, expressed confidence that the association will play a vital role in promoting academic excellence, supporting the welfare of the teaching community, and enhancing the stature of the university.

“I hope the MUTA becomes a strong platform for addressing the challenges, protecting the rights of the educators, and contributing significantly to the university’s legacy,” he said.

“The role of teachers in higher education has never been more critical than now. We live in a rapidly changing world where knowledge is expanding at an unprecedented pace, and our society faces new challenges and complexities,” Mr. Lokanath said.

Teachers, especially in universities, are not just instructors but are the custodians of critical thinking and builders of intellectual resilience and the guiding lights who help students navigate the complexities of the world, he said.

In the context of the globalised world, the role of teachers in higher education has become even more significant. “We are tasked with preparing students for careers that may not yet exist and equipping them with the tools to think critically, solve problems creatively, and communicate effectively,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

Former Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa, Karnataka State Higher Education Council vice-chairman S.R. Niranjana, MUTA president Prof. M.P. Sadashiva, and others were present.
