Mortal remains of a 40-year-old fisherman recovered from sea

The mortal remains of a 40-year-old fisherman who went missing on June 17 after his boat sank midway in the sea, was brought to the shore on Saturday.  

The fisherman, identified as Ibrahim Shah of Mandapam, had gone missing after he ventured into the sea in a mechanised boat on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) night along with three fishermen from Mandapam – Anees, 30, Madavan, 28, and Pareedu, 28. 

As the vessel allegedly developed a snag and sunk into the sea, all four who struggled for their lives raised an alarm for help.  

While three of them were rescued by fishermen who were returning to the shore, Ibrahim Shah went missing.  

Following this, Indian Coast Guard personnel, a policeman along with another fisherman identified the mortal remains near Katchatheevu and recovered the body.  

The mortal remains were later taken to Mandapam North jetty from where it was taken to Ramanathapuram Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
