Modern police booths for Greater Chennai City Police to enable round the clock patrolling in the thickly populated areas of the city were inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin on Monday in the presence of Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments(HR&CE) P.Sekar Babu and Chennai Central MP Dayanidhi Maran.
The Deputy Chief Minister inspected a modern police booth at Border Thottam off Anna Salai and also flagged off special two wheelers for beat patrolling in the Chepauk area.
The Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A.Arun said, for the east zone comprising three police districts- Triplicane, Mylapore and Kilpauk, 24 special patrolling two-wheelers have been given. “Our personnel will be on the move round the clock in their respective beats in those vehicles. Two police personnel will work on rotation basis in three shifts. Modern police booths were established at 10 places and have all modern facilities including air-conditioning, the live stream of CCTV footage from the respective areas to the booths. 14 will be established in a few days in the east zone. Police personnel can constantly watch the CCTV footage and closely monitor the movements in the area. It has display boards to create awareness,” the Commissioner said.
Mr. Arun said these police booths and special vehicles were launched with the aim of preventing crime against women and children and the drug peddling and to ensure the criminal elements should be identified and nabbed quickly. Similar modern police booths with state of art facilities will be extended to other areas in the city.
