Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy, along with District Collector M.S. Sangeetha, distributed ₹100.5 crore-worth loans to 1,199 women self-help groups.

Of the total, 468 SHGs from rural areas were given loans worth ₹36.16 crore, 655 SHGs from urban areas were given loans worth ₹63.26 crore. Further, under ‘Vazhndhu Kaatuvom’, scheme 76 SHGs were provided ₹63 lakhs as loan.

Various SHGs, panchayat federations, village poverty reduction associations which performed well in 2023-24 were given the district-level Manimegalai award containing a certificate and a cash purse of ₹3.75 lakh.
