The Thuckalay police have arrested a mason for allegedly raising ganja plants in his house.

Police said information was received from the public that Ajin, 27, of Panavilai near Chunkaankadai, who is now living at Paruththiyarai Thottam, had planted ganja in his house. As Thuckalay police conducted a surprise check in the house of Ajin on Tuesday, they found he was raising ganja plants in pots.

During an inquiry, Ajin reportedly told the police he was using ganja even as he was working in Chennai. When he happened to get the seeds in the ganja he had received from a peddler, Ajin sowed it in the pots when he came to Paruththiyarai Thottam and raised the plant.

He was remanded in judicial custody.

In Tenkasi district, the police arrested autorickshaw driver Thirumalai Kumar, 45, of Vedampudur for allegedly raising ganja in flowerpots in his house.
