Martial discord between a couple led to the husband murdering a 50-year-old marriage broker in Valachil in Mangaluru Rural police station limits on May 22 night. The accused Mustafa has been arrested, said Mangaluru Rural police on May 23.

The police gave name of the deceased as Suleman, a resident of Valachil on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

In a statement, the police said Suleman had facilitated the marriage of Mustafa, his relative, with Shahneez, eight months ago. Due to marital discord, Shahneez returned to her parents’ house two months ago. This led to arguments between Mustafa and Suleman.

On May 22 night, Mustafa (30) called Suleman and abused him. Suleman went to Mustafa’s house in Valachil with his two sons Riyab and Siyab. While the sons waited outside the house of Mustafa, Suleman went inside. After a few minutes, Suleman came out of the house and indicated to his sons that the discussion was not fruitful, and that they should all leave, according to the police.

As they were leaving, around 9.30 p.m., Mustafa allegedly came running out of his house. He shouted at Suleman in Beary language before stabbing him on the right side of his neck. As Suleman collapsed, Mustafa allegedly stabbed Siyab on the left side of his chest and Riyab on his right forearm, according to the police.

Neighbours rushed the injured trio to the nearest hospital. Around 11 p.m., doctors declared Suleman as brought dead. Siyab and Riyab were undergoing treatment, the police stated.

The police registered a case under Sections 103(1) (murder), 109(1) (attempt to murder), 118(1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 351(3), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
