A 24-year-old daily labourer is battling for life after a firecracker burst in Vyasarpadi on Saturday night.

A senior official of the City police said Udayakumar was a resident of  Pulianthope. On Saturday he went to his relative’s house on Sundaram Street in Vyasarpadi to attend a funeral function where he consumed alcohol.

While being in an intoxicated condition he tried to burst a country-made firecracker. As it did not explode properly, Udayakumar picked up the firecracker when it burst causing burn injuries on the face and body.
