The Aminjikarai police on Tuesday arrested T. Panchatcharam, 42, and seized a spool of maanja thread, after a police constable got injured when the thread entangled her neck in the city recently. ‘Maanja’ thread is an abrasive thread used in kite-flying. It is coated with powdered glass and adhesives, making it sharp. On Sunday, constable Ramya, attached to Aminjikarai police station, was injured by the thread when she was heading to work on her two-wheeler. She was admitted to a government hospital for treatment.
