The Kannur Town police on Wednesday arrested a 51-year-old man on charge of attempting to kill his estranged wife by pouring petrol on her after hitting her with an autorickshaw.

The accused, V.N. Sunil Kumar of Mavilai Kunnumparam, was taken into custody on Tuesday night following a complaint filed by P.V. Priya, 43, of Elayavoor South.

The alleged incident took place on Tuesday evening when Priya was on her way home.

The police registered a case based on the woman’s complaint and arrested the accused.
