The Pavoorchathram police have arrested a lorry driver for allegedly attempting to murder his sister-in-law.

Police said lorry driver Esakki Muthu, 41, and his wife Deerga Dharshini of Achchanpudur, had adopted his sister-in-law Gayathri’s daughter as the couple did not have children. Accusing Esakki Muthu of not taking due care of her daughter, Gayathri took her daughter to her home at Pullukattuvalasai recently.

Agitated over this, Esakki Muthu allegedly attempted to fatally knock her down with a car when she was going on her scooter at Madathur near Pavoorchathram recently. As an autorickshaw came in between the two-wheeler and the car, Gayathri escaped unhurt while the pillion rider suffered injuries and she was admitted to the hospital.

As Gayathri filed a complaint with Pavoorchathram police that her brother-in-law attempted to murder her, the police picked-up Esakki Muthu and reportedly found the charges to be true.

Subsequently, Esakki Muthu was arrested.
