The deity of Lord Kodandarama was taken in a colourful procession on ‘Chinna Sesha Vahanam’ along the four streets encircling the temple in Tirupati on the second day of the annual Brahmotsavams on Friday.

Placed atop the gold-gilded carrier representing a five-hooded serpent, the deity was paraded along the streets amod the chanting of ‘Govinda Govinda’ by the devotees.

Snapana Tirumanjanam rituals of a celestial bath were performed to the deities of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord Lakshmana in the afternoon. In the evening, the deity of Kodandarama was placed on ‘Hamsa Vahanam’, a carrier representing a swan, and taken in a procession.

Ugadi festivities

Meanwhile, the temples under the purview of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) are gearing up for the Ugadi celebrations on March 30.

Apart from Sri Kodandarama temple, Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati, Sri Padmavati temple at Tiruchanur, Sri Kalyana Venkateswara temple at Srinivasa Mangapuram, are being decorated for the event. The TTD’s Sri Venugopala Swamy temple at Karvetinagaram and Sri Prasanna Venkateswara temple at Appalayagunta are also being spruced up.

Koil Alwar at Vontimitta temple

The ‘Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam’, the traditional temple cleansing rituals, will be conducted at Sri Kodandaramalayam at Vontimitta in Kadapa district on April 1, ahead of the annual Brahmotsavams, scheduled to be celebrated from April 5 to 15.

An aromatic mixture called ‘Parimalam’, made of Srichurnam, Namam Kommu, vermilion, turmeric and Kichiligadda (a tuber variety), is smeared on the inner walls of the temple, which gives a cooling and soothing effect.

Ever since the temple was taken over by the TTD from the Endowments Department on September 9, 2015, the ‘Srirama Navami’ Brahmotsavams is celebrated in a grand manner. The ‘Sita Rama Kalyanam’ is also performed in a big way as a State festival.
