The Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act cases has awarded life imprisonment to an aged man for sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to prosecution, Muthukutti, 65, of Odaimarichan under Mukkudal police station limits sexually assaulted a minor girl in 2018. Based on the complaint from the victim’s mother, the police arrested Muthukutti under the POCSO Act.

Special Court Judge for POCSO cases Suresh Kumar awarded life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Muhthukutti on Monday.

The judge also directed the government to give ₹3 lakh as compensation to the girl.

“We’ve ensured the conviction of 25 persons in as many POCSO cases in Tiruenlveli district in 2025 alone. Of this, a history-sheeter has been awarded 25 years imprisonment, thanks to the strong case presented by the police during the trial,” Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan said.
