The Principal District Court has awarded life imprisonment to a youth for murdering a woman.

According to prosecution, the body of a woman was found in the irrigation tank at Panchaankulam in Karivalamvanthanallur in the district on July 30, 2024. Based on the complaint from Village Administrative Officer Murugan, the Karivalamvanthanallur police registered a case.

During investigation, the police identified the deceased as Manimekalai, 19, from the same area who had been murdered by Krishnan, 29, of nearby Ramanathapuram. Manimekalai was in a relationship with Krishnan, who was married to another woman. As she had compelled him to marry her, he took her to the irrigation tank and murdered her.

District Judge P. Rajavelu awarded life imprisonment to Krishnan and slapped a fine of ₹1,000 on Wednesday.
