The Vigilance sleuths have arrested Assistant Labour Officer K.A. Jayaprakash, a native of Kombodinjamakkal, for allegedly accepting a ₹5,000 bribe from a hotel manager in Guruvayur.
According to Vigilance, Jayaprakash, then posted at Chavakkad, visited a hotel near Guruvayur temple on August 30 for inspection. He allegedly told the manager that the hotel had engaged too many temporary staff and demanded that he appear at the office on September 16. When the manager complied, Jayaprakash allegedly offered to “settle” the matter if he was paid ₹10,000.
The officer reportedly collected ₹5,000 in cash and demanded the balance later, even after being transferred on September 17 to the Kakkanad Labour Office on promotion. He allegedly asked the manager to send the amount through Google Pay, and when the latter refused, insisted on taking the money directly.
Acting on the manager’s complaint, Thrissur Vigilance officials set up a trap and caught Jayaprakash red-handed while receiving the cash. He was later remanded in judicial custody.
