Kuvempu University has decided to go for digital evaluation of answer scripts. To begin with, the digital evaluation of answer scripts of the first, third, and fifth semester examinations will begin on Monday, February 17.

For the first time, the university has adopted this system to conduct the evaluation process efficiently in a short duration. The teachers engaged for evaluation will get computers, and they have to log in to assess the papers. They will get passwords that expire after a stipulated time to access the scanned answer scripts.

“This system has been done in many universities of the State. We are implementing it for the first time. We have already conducted a demonstration to show how the system works,” said S.M. Gopinath, Registrar (Evaluation) of the university.

The digital system will avoid the chances of malfunctions. “Earlier, there were chances of leaving out some pages without assessing. However, in this system, the evaluator cannot miss any page. And the evaluator has to assess an answer script for a minimum of four minutes,” he said.

In some cases, students made personal appeals to evaluators seeking favours. Such things would go blank at the time of scanning of answer scripts itself.

“The marks will be directly entered into the Unified College Management System (UCMS) and with that, it would be easy to declare results and issue marks cards. We are hopeful of completing the process within 15 days,” the registrar added.
