KTU Syndicate meet called off due to lack of quorum

The Syndicate meeting of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), scheduled for Friday, was called off due to a lack of quorum.

Several members, including nominated MLAs and government secretaries, opted not to attend the meeting, further highlighting the escalating tensions between the State government and the university Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) K. Sivaprasad.

The meeting assumed relevance as it came two months after the previous one ended in chaos with the Vice-Chancellor walking out midway and the remaining members continuing the proceedings, despite his directive to adjourn. Several crucial decisions made during that meeting were later cancelled by the Vice-Chancellor, prompting some Syndicate members to move the Kerala High Court.

Sources indicate that the absence of Syndicate members stemmed from the inclusion of certain agenda items discussed at the last meeting, despite being sub judice.

The ongoing administrative deadlock threatened to disrupt the university’s operations, with the Budget still pending approval for presentation ahead of the new financial year.
