The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Palakkad, and the Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Coimbatore, will jointly organise an awareness-cum-training campaign for enhancing tribal income at Attappady on Friday.

KVK officials said that the programme was meant to uplift the tribal communities by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, income generating activities, and offering improved access to credit and resources.

V. Venkatasubramanian, director of ICAR Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Bengaluru, will inaugurate the programme at the Sugarcane Breeding Institute research centre at Agali on Friday morning.

P. Govindaraj, director of ICAR-SBI, Coimbatore, will preside over the function. P. Jacob John, director of extension, Kerala Agricultural University; and R. Selvarajan, director of ICAR National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB), Thiruchirappalli; will be the guests.

KVK has offered training in honey bee rearing and supplied bee colonies in three hamlets of Pudur and Sholayur panchayats in Attappady. As part of the new programme, KVK will distribute chicks, tissue-cultured banana saplings, first-aid kits, and acoustic wild boar repellents. Awareness sessions on credit facilities, mushroom cultivation, backyard poultry, and health and nutrition will be held for tribal farmers.
