The Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS), on Wednesday, suspended the principal and warden (in charge) of the Morarji Desai School at Koppa in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district following the death of a girl in the hostel.

KREIS Executive Director P.S. Kantharaj suspended the school’s principal Rajani and warden Sundar Naik. The Society suspended them, taking note of their negligence in handling their responsibilities at the residential school. The society has also appointed a retired district judge to probe the death of the student, and submit a report within a month.

The Society had sent two officials to the school to look into the case and submit a report. Based on the report, the two principal and the warden have been suspended, and a probe has been ordered.

A 15-year-old girl was found dead in the hostel on June 28. Following the incident, many progressive organisations staged protests demanding action against the negligence of the officials and a probe into the incident.
