Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) will be holding a public hearing in Mysuru on Wednesday to seek opinions from the consumers, including domestic and commercial, and others to the proposal of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) for a tariff revision.

Acting on the CESC’s petition on the tariff revision, the KERC has convened the hearing at the Zilla Panchayat hall at 11 a.m. Interested stakeholders can participate and air their views, the CESC said in its note.

The CESC filed the petition before the KERC seeking an increase of 68 paise a unit in the mandatory charges for all categories of electricity consumers. An increase of 30 paise in the basic charge and 38 paise in the unit charge, adding up to 68 paise a unit, is the hike proposed by the CESC.

However, the Mysuru Industries Association (MIA) had objected to the proposed hike and said the move would hit industrial development in the region. The proposed revision of electricity tariffs amidst the hike in milk and bus fares and the rising costs of essential commodities would severely affect the people, it stated.
