The Government Railway Police (GRP) Korukkupet has apprehended a 15-year-old boy for attempting to sabotage train service by placing stones on the railway track near Thiruvottriyur Railway Station. He was taken to the Juvenile Justice Board and released after censure.

The GRP were investigating an incident wherein staff found stones deliberately placed in between the rails and a fishplate removed from the tracks near Thiruvottriyur railway station on Saturday evening.

The Thiruvottriyur Station Master deputed a staff to investigate the cause of a technical glitch in the signal that connects the mainline with the service tracks towards the Wimco Nagar railway station.

While on the way to the loop line from the main one, the pointsman found stones in between rails along with a spanner that had been used to remove fish plate. This could have prevented a signal change and caused an accident. They removed the stones and spanner and re-attached the fishplate.

Following a complaint from the railway authorities, the GRP scrutinised the CCTV footage and found a young boy placing stones on the track. After a thorough investigation, police traced his house and nabbed him. A case was registered under the provisions of Railway Act for maliciously wrecking or attempting to wreck a train by putting or throwing upon or across any railways, any wood, stone or other matter or thing.

He was produced before Juvenile Justice Board, Tiruvallur and later released after censure. Police sources said he told them that he did the mischief playfully and was not aware of the consequences.
