As many as 50 children aged below 18 were screened at the special camp for Type 1 Diabetes at the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) on Thursday.

The camp was organised by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital and Child Welfare Department, Tiruchi, in collaboration with Idhayangal Trust. Collector M. Pradeep Kumar distributed the aids to the children.

Diabetic patients were given insulin pens for both long-acting and ultra-short-acting insulin, insulators, and glucometers with 100 strips as part of the corporate social responsibility-funded donations during the camp.

Each child was given medical aid for a period of two months and has been asked to come for a follow-up after that. They have been instructed to use glucometers thrice a day to monitor their glucose levels and report to the health educator assigned to them. A 24-hour helpline number has been given to them, a senior doctor said.
