Importance of source segregation of garbage stressed in Erode

District Collector S. Kandasamy emphasised at a special consultation meeting on solid waste management with voluntary service organisations held recently the need for source segregation of garbage.

The meeting focused on strengthening waste management practices in Erode Corporation, encouraging residents to segregate waste at source, and involving volunteers in adopting specific areas to achieve 100% efficiency in solid waste management.

Addressing the gathering, the Collector highlighted the importance of effective planning during festivals to prevent waste accumulation, curbing roadside dumping, and safeguarding drains and water bodies from pollution. He further instructed educational institutions and voluntary organisations engaged in public service to prepare short-term, mid-term, and long-term action plans, and assured that such review meetings would be conducted regularly.
