Following heavy rain forecast for coastal districts in Southern Tamil Nadu, an average of 12.06 mm rainfall was recorded in the Ramanathapuram district on Tuesday.
While areas of Kadaladi and Valinokam recorded highest rainfall of 32.60 mm and 39.80 mm respectively, other places like Ramanathapuram, R.S. Mangalam, Kamuthi, Pallamorkulam near Keezhkarai recorded next highest rainfall of 28 mm, 15 mm, 14.60 mm, 12.50 mm respectively.
As heavy rainfall was recorded in most parts of the district, several areas like Ramanathapuram-Rameswaram road near Bharathi Nagar, old bus stand, Government Medical College Hospital, railway feeder road among others were seen inundated with rainwater.
The local body administration jumping into recovery works sucked out the water inundated in important locations to prevent disturbance to the public.
