Former Minister and MLA Harish Rao expressed satisfaction with the interim orders issued by the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, according to Section 3 of the 1956 Interstate River Water Disputes Act, which would help Telangana get higher water share.

In a statement here, he attributed the credit to former Chief Minister and BRS supremo K.Chandrasekhar Rao’s efforts over the last decade. He criticised the current Congress government for attempting to claim these achievements as its own, stating that it was the same party at the Centre which had initially introduced the problematic Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, Section 89.

The interim orders from the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal have affirmed the rights of Telangana to a fair allocation of Krishna River waters, consistent with the long-standing stance advocated by Mr.Chandrasekhar Rao that allocations should be State-based rather than project-based.

The outcome is a testament to the struggle and strategic planning executed during KCR’s tenure to rectify the ‘injustices’ done by the Congress party. Mr. Harish Rao reminded that the BRS government had gone to the Supreme Court in 2015 to ensure Telangana’s rights in Krishna waters and continued to press for an allocation of 575 tmcft water until the tribunal’s verdict.

Mr. Harish Rao stressed the importance of continuing the fight for a permanent solution to the water distribution issue under Section 3, while also seeking an interim increase in water allocation by 50%.

He urged the government to act with integrity and support the State’s efforts to secure its legitimate water shares, emphasising that the BRS will lend support in all possible ways to ensure justice for Telangana.
