A gym trainer was arrested for sexually harassing a 30-year-old woman in Kilpauk.

The woman had joined the gym months ago, where she became acquainted with Surya, 28, of Elephant Gate, one of the trainers there. He kept making unwanted advances at her, which caused her to avoid him. On January 13, Surya stopped her outside the gym, slapped her, and threatened to ruin her reputation unless she complied with his sexual demands.

The woman reported the incident to the Kilpauk Police Station, and a case was registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. After investigating, the police arrested Surya, who they found had a prior criminal case against him. He was later remanded in custody.
