The University of Kerala is yet to receive a huge sum towards lease rent for 37 acres of land leased out for the construction of the Greenfield Stadium at Kariavattom, the Save University Campaign Committee (SUCC) said on Saturday.
The arrears have ounted to ₹82.58 crore, the SUCC said citing an RTI reply from the university. The university had inked concession agreements with the National Games Secretariat (NGS) and the Kariavattom Sports Facilities Ltd in April 2012.
The lease deed was signed with the NGS in December 2012. According to the RTI reply, the university has so far received a little over ₹6.20 crore towards lease rent, inclusive of service tax/GST. The university is owed, including GST, a little over ₹82.58 crore.
Meanwhile, SUCC said that there were complaints that the university had neglected collecting the arrears succumbing to political pressure. There was alleged indifference towards recovering the huge sum despite the existence of a committee monitoring the stadium-related affairs headed by the Vice-Chancellor, it said.
