GPS equipment mandatory for vehicles transporting minerals from August 1

The Department of Geology and Mines has made fitting of GPS equipment mandatory for all vehicles transporting minerals from quarries, crushers and stocking yards in Villupuram Division from August 1.

At a meeting held in Villupuram on Wednesday, A. Arumaganainar, Regional Director, Villupuram Division, instructed all quarry operators, traders and truck operators from Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tirupattur, Ranipet, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kallakurichi districts to comply with the requirements.

All trucks transporting minerals should be registered with the department and fitted with AIS-140 or higher standards of GPS equipment. Similarly, quarry operators have been instructed to compulsorily install weighing bridges on their premises.
