Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the government was on a mission to build human resources with an aim of making Telangana a leader. Education and health sectors, along with a special focus on women’s development, will always be the government’s priority, he said.
Mr. Vikramarka was speaking at the Annual Day at St. Francis Degree College for Women, Begumpet, on Friday. He reiterated that government was ready to allocate any amount of funds for the development of these sectors. The Young India Integrated Schools to equip students from Telangana compete with the world was one such effort in the direction.
Each school, he said, was being constructed in over 20 acres and with an investment of ₹200 crore. Sanctions have already been issued for 60 such schools. Education of girl children and empowering women was another priority.
He said that the Mahalakshmi scheme for women has been significantly helping students go to colleges and making sure women reach their work places on time sans hurdles.
“Benefits given to women won’t stop with free bus rides. The government is keen to transform women as entrepreneurs and an action plan is mooted to involve women SHGs in generation of 1,000 MW solar power,” he said.
Unlike handing over such projects to the corporates, the government decided to allot solar power plants to women SHGs. To facilitate this, he said, the government has been setting up bank linkages for investments into solar power and to buy back the power generated by the SHGs, to reduce any stress on women. The goal is to create one crore women millionaires in the State, he added.
Mr. Vikramarka, congratulating the college on its special day, remembered that it had started with 15 girl students in 1959 and now is a resource of 3,000 students in various disciplines and pursuing diverse talents.
