Health Minister Ma. Subramanian on Saturday said the State’s Drugs Control Department had been instructed to take up a detailed investigation into allegations of adulteration of Coldrif cough syrup.
He said that it was exploring multiple aspects, including the manufacturing and expiry dates, the period during which the product was sold, any reported adverse effects, and if it was used in north India or was past its expiry date, a press release said.
Further action will be taken after the findings. So far, there have been no complaints from elsewhere, he said on the sidelines of Nalam Kaakkum Stalin camp held in Chengalpattu district.
On Friday, the State’s Drugs Control Department issued an immediate stop production order to the manufacturer of Coldrif syrup after analysis by the Government Drugs Testing Laboratory found batch number SR-13 to be adulterated with Diethylene Glycol. A show-cause notice was served to the manufacturer — Sresan Pharmaceutical Manufacturer, Sunguvarchathiram, Kancheepuram district — for cancellation of their manufacturing licence.
