Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Thursday flagged off the special train carrying the first contingent of 212 delegates of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 event from the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station.
The event, to be held from February 15 to 24, holds special significance as it coincides with the grand celebration of Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj. This year’s theme honours sage Agastiyar.
The 10-day-long cultural event will feature exhibitions, seminars, workshops, book releases, and other informative activities.
Nearly 1080 delegates from Tamil Nadu, including students, writers, teachers, artists, farmers, professionals, and researchers are participating in this year’s event.
To facilitate seamless connectivity from Tamil Nadu to Varanasi for passengers attending the event, Southern Railway is coordinating with implementing agencies for the programme — IIT-Madras (IIT-M) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Mr. Ravi welcomed the inaugural batch of delegates by presenting them with roses. He also honoured the students with delegate bags — a special memento for their participation in the event.
Kaushal Kishore, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway; B. Vishwanath Eerya, Divisional Railway Manager; and members of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam Committee, including V. Kamakoti, IIT-M Director, were present.
