A government bus driver and conductor who were arrested for preventing police from performing their duty were placed under suspension on Monday.

R. Jayachandran, 51, a resident of Gangavalli who works as a government bus conductor at the Thammampatti bus depot, and Neelakandan, 50, also from Gangavalli and employed as a government bus driver at the Meyyanur depot, were arrested following an altercation with the Gangavalli police. The incident occurred over the arrest of a woman for selling alcohol near a Tasmac outlet on the Gangavalli-Thammampatti State Highway on April 14, and the two were allegedly in an inebriated state.

Police registered cases against three people, including Jayachandran and Neelakandan, for allegedly not allowing police to perform their duty and arrested and remanded them in prison. On Monday, TNSTC Salem Division general manager Gopalakrishnan issued the suspension orders for Jayachandran and Neelakandan.
