Around 33, 000 square feet of waste dumping ground near the Mettupalayam truck terminal has been converted into a green space and ecopark by the joint initiative of the Oulgaret Municipality and Rotary Club of Pondicherry Beach Town (RCBT).

The project which started in 2021 after the RCBT entered into an understanding with Oulgaret Municipality to redevelop around 17,000 sq ft of dumping yard into a green grove using Miyawaki method. The Rotary team developed the land by planting 1050 trees, including native varieties.

In the second phase, an adjacent yard measuring 16,000 sq ft was developed into an eco park by planting several varieties of trees, herbs and flowering plants. A rain water harvesting facility having a depth of 125 ft has been constructed inside the park. The development of the green cover and ecopark cost around ₹ 20 lakh. The facility was inaugurated by Government whip A. K D Arumugham on Saturday. Oulgaret Commissioner A. Suresh Raj was present.
