Four individuals transporting black jaggery and alum from Basavakalyan in Karnataka to Telangana districts, where liquor is produced, were arrested by the State Excise and Prohibition Department on Wednesday.

The officials seized 7,860 kilograms of black jaggery and 40 kilograms alum being transported in a goods carried vehicle and two autos. Net cash worth ₹1.07 lakh cash was also seized.

Shivakanth, Mohammed Baba, Arun Nayak and Hira Singh were arrested while efforts are underway to trace their accomplices Naresh and Srinu. Police said the individuals stored jaggery in Pahadishareef before selling it to their customers across the State.

The loaded van and autos were ready to leave for Devarakonda in Nalgonda when the officials conducted checks. A case was booked by the Saroornagar excise police and investigation was initiated. The total value of seizure is pegged at ₹15.9 lakh.
