A former Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) was convicted and sentenced to three-year imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.
The case was booked by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Kancheepuram Detachment against Arunachalam, formerly RDO, Musiri, Tiruchi district, and his wife Lalitha, for having acquired assets and pecuniary resources in his name and in the name of his wife which were disproportionate to the known sources of his income for which they could not account satisfactorily.
The case was tried before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Tiruvallur. On Thursday, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court pronounced the judgment sentencing Arunachalam to undergo three-year simple imprisonment besides imposing a fine of ₹35 lakh and his wife Lalitha was also sentenced to three-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5 lakh.
