The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Chengalpattu on Monday convicted and sentenced a former Inspector of Police to two-year imprisonment for receiving a bribe of ₹5,000 while he was serving in 2011.
According to DVAC, P. Soundararajan was working as Inspector of Police, S-8 Adambakkam Police Station (Crime) from September 2010 to November 22, 20211. In the second week of November, 2011, Joseph Benzigar, owner of Rose Gas Agencies as instructed by Soundararajan met him at Adambakkam Police Station. At that time, the inspector demanded Rs.5,000 as monthly mamool for not to harass his employees and not to foist any false case against them. Followed by this, the complainant had preferred a complaint at DVAC .
Soundararajan was caught red-handed when he reiterated his earlier demand and accepted ₹5,000 from the complainant Joseph Benzigar.
At conclusion of the trial, the Chief Judicial Magistrate-Cum-Special Judge, Chengalpet on Monday pronounced judgement convicting Soundarajan and sentencing him to undergo simple Imprisonment for two years. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
