A vast extent of vegetation in the forest area around Mullayyanagiri in Chikkamagaluru taluk has been reduced to ashes following a forest fire raging for the last two days. Forest Department officials are trying to stop the blaze from spreading further and put it off.
The fire was initially spotted on Monday near Seethalayyanagiri, Mullayyanagiri, and Kavikal Gandi. Following the efforts of the ground staff, the situation came under control. However, the fire was noticed again at Seethallayanagiri and neighbouring areas. The residents of Chikkamagaluru could see the smoke in the hilly ranges.
Officials said staff had been put on duty to put off the blaze using blowers and fire-cutters, used to create firebreaks by cutting through the vegetation.
