The Oulgaret Muncipality has urged the public to adhere to certain guidelines in line with the recent directive of the Madras High Court on taking out funeral processions on the thoroughfares.
In a press note, A. Sureshraj, Oulgaret Commissioner, noted that the court had directed authorities concerned to ensure that the public movement is not obstructed by funeral processions and the custom of throwing flowers, garlands, bursting firecrackers and placing condolence banners. The court held that such practices carried out on public roads without permission were causing inconvenience or accidents.
The Municipality pointed out that general public and social activists have been requesting it to take appropriate steps to avoid this inconvenience. The civic body also said that as per the Madras High court order, it is advised that the garlands and petals placed on the mortal remains should not be thrown on the road during the last rites, and, instead, be kept on the side of the burial site.
I In case of violation, appropriate fines will be imposed at the time of death registration. Therefore, people areis requested to accept the Municipality’s request and cooperate, the Commissioner said.
