The mobile phones, camera and ganja were seized by the police
Five persons were arrested for possession and selling of ganja in Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on Thursday.
Police said that the arrested persons were identified as K. Gowtham, 21, V. Rajesh, 21, N. Vinayakam, 21, F. Selvam, 25, and C. Santhosh, 23. They belong to Vaniyambadi town and were childhood friends.
Initial inquiry revealed that as part of security measures, a team of police personnel was conducting surprise checks at public places including bus terminus and government offices.
During the searches near the bus terminus, police found the gang talking to young commuters, who were waiting to board buses. As the activity of the gang looked suspicious, police checked them. Police found 1.5 kg ganja, which were packed in numerous small packets.
Police said that the gang got down at Jolarpet railway station after they noticed a police team got into the train to search the coaches. They would have taken an autorickshaw to Vaniyambadi to sell the contraband in retail.
Police seized nine cell phones as the gang was in touch with their customers to deliver the consignment in small quantities at various places in the town. A case has been registered by Vaniyambadi Town police. Police also analysed CCTV footage in the area to nab the key suspect, S. Rajsekar (35). A probe is underway.
