An angry father of two climbed an electrical tower reportedly as his children did not receive any financial aid under the ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme, at Menedtivani Thota area in West Godavari district on Saturday.

The father had withdrawn his protest only after the local police counselled him about the scheme. Speaking to The Hindu over phone, Bhimavaram One Town Circle Inspector Nagaraju said that Korupalli Shyam climbed an electrical tower over delay in disbursement of the aid under the ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme for his two children. “Mr. Shyam was under the false impression that July 5 was the deadline to receive the financial aid. Hence, he was informed that the deadline is July 10 after which he withdrew his protest,” the CI said.

Mr. Shyam has been directed to meet the respective officials or the office of the local MLA for further updates on the disbursement of the financial aid from the government, the officer added.
