The Prohibition and Excise Department has recorded over 100 cases under the ongoing Operation Dhoolpet, a record in the department’s enforcement history.

Launched on July 17, Operation Dhoolpet completed 250 days, during which a total of 102 cases were registered, and 401 kilograms of ganja seized. A total of 425 individuals have been booked, with 327 sent to remand, 13 bound over, and 85 absconding. Authorities have also confiscated 147 mobile phones, 58 motorcycles, and two cars as part of the operation.

The department reported a dramatic 90% reduction in ganja sales in Dhoolpet, long considered the epicentre of ganja distribution in Hyderabad. A special enforcement unit was stationed in Dhoolpet, and regular raids reduced bulk ganja sales to near negligible levels.

Speaking about the progress, Director V.B. Kamalasan Reddy stated that the operation will continue with intensified efforts until the trade is completely eradicated. “Based on intelligence inputs that several offenders have shifted to other areas under GHMC limits, joint inspections are being carried out with State Task Force (STF) and other enforcement teams,” he said.
